Conference articles (2)

L. Sormunen, R. U. Mondal, J. Puttonen and J. Kurjenniemi, “Flexible Simulation Framework for High Throughput Satellite System Radio Resource Management“, Ka and Broadband Communications Conference, Sorrento, Italy, September 30 – October 2, 2019.

The paper presents a new flexible simulation framework called PySatSim for various satellite network and other communications related use cases. The simulator is equipped to handle large scale scenarios by implementing modifiable time and frequency resolution to be able to run longer simulations with large number of users.

Finally, the PySatSim is demonstrated in system-level simulations by comparing performance of a beam hopping system to a conventional non-flexible payload in GEO HTS satellite scenario with long simulation duration.

J. Puttonen, T. Nihtilä, M. Innanen, R. Järvinen, J. Kurjenniemi, V. Hytönen and T. Flink, “Cloud Simulation Platform for Satellite and Terrestrial Network Simulations”, Ka and Broadband Communications Conference,
Sorrento, Italy, September 30 – October 2, 2019.

This paper presents ongoing work related to the design and development of a Magister Solutions’ Cloud Simulation Platform, which is a scalable, high performance solution for satellite and terrestrial network simulations. Operable anywhere through a web browser, in the first phase it provides means to run Satellite Network Simulator 3 (SNS3) based simulation campaigns in the cloud and simplifies the whole simulation workflow.

The service is aimed to provide a solution for managing the whole simulation process, e.g. scenario creation, parameterization, simulation campaign definition, launch, distribution, and results plotting. The service provides easily accessible graphical web-based interface and uses cloud services for simulation execution for high efficiency and scalability.

The service supports both satellite and terrestrial network simulations and although the first version of the service is built on SNS3, it is not fundamentally limited, but the service will be extended to support also other simulation engines in the future.
