The European Space Agency (ESA) TRP project “Robust TM System for Future Launchers” was completed with its Final Presentation held at European Space Research and Technology Centre (ESTEC) premises in September 2016.
The partners working on the project included Magister Solutions, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Space Engineering (Airbus Defence and Space), ELV and the Queens University of Belfast.
Together, they designed a new telemetry communication system for launch vehicles with higher capacity while guaranteeing the strict availability and reliability requirements. The proposed techniques include concatenated convolutional and Reed-Salomon coding, data relay satellite services for launch vehicles, retrodirective antenna arrays, and lossless data compression.
Magister Solutions designed and implemented a system level simulator for a launch vehicle telemetry communication system. The simulator was used for the overall performance analysis of the launch vehicle telemetry system, esp. w.r.t. the proposed technological solutions. The attached figure shows a visualization of the system level simulation.
